The main trade unions in Spain, CCOO, UGT and USO have called Menzies Aviation Ibérica workers to a partial handling strike in Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Málaga and Palma de Mallorca airports. Worker’s representatives have announced that the strike has been called after a “further delay” from the company in the negotiation of the collective agreement. It has now taken over a year and a half. The informations was reported by Expansion. On June 17th, ElEconomista reported on the formation of an unprecedented lobby group made up of some the biggest names in European commercial aviation. Air France KLM, Easyjet, IAG, Lufthansa and Ryanair have formed a lobby to defend their interests before the drafting of new European air transport policy. Ryanair doubled their advantage over Vueling Airlines

In March of last year Vueling was about to catch Ryanair as the main operator in the Spanish airports. This morning, thirteen months later, Preferente.com informed that Ryanair doubled their advantage with regard to the Spanish airline. They served 1.4 million more passengers than Vueling between January and March 2015. This nearly doubles the 800,000 passenger difference they had over Vueling within the first quarter of 2014. So far this year, Ryanair has transported 4.7 million passengers, which is a 870,000 passenger increase (22.8%). This morning, in a press conference, Ryanair announced they will start selling tickets for flights to Castellón. ElMundo and LasProvincias have just informed that José Espartero – Ryanair’s Commercial director in Spain and Portugal – explained that the airline will connect Castellón with Bristol and London-Stansted as of September. In particular, they will start Castellón-London on September 15, to operate three times a week; Castellón-Bristol will begin on September 16 and will have 2 frequencies per week. At the International Tourism Fair (ITB), in addition to new information about the upcoming Ryanair base in Berlin, traffic expectation data for Gran Canaria was also revealed. Yesterday, Ryanair announced they will have a new base in Berlin starting on October 27. From there, they will connect with six Spanish cities: Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, Palma and Valencia. The new base in Germany was presented during the International Tourism Fair ITB. Apart from these cities, Ryanair will also fly to Athens, Bari, Bologna, Bratislava, Brussels, Glasgow, Palermo, Riga, Rome and Venice from this new base. According to Heraldo.es, two pilots from Zaragoza, supported by investors in the same city, have set up an airline to operate schedule flights, both domestic and international, from Zaragoza airport. The start of operations would be in Easter. The target is to recover the connections with Rome and Alicante which Ryanair used to operate. Last month, Aena informed  that Alicante airport increased traffic by 2.5% between January and September 2014 with regard to the same period of 2013. This is significant by itself, but it is even more important if we consider that Ryanair, the first operator in the airport, reduced their offer in the summer from 2.373 to 2.208 million seats.
