Iberia Handling unions have called a strike in Ibiza to be held on July 30 and 31 and on August 4 and 8. Walkouts have been programmed from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 2100 to 23:00 local time. Diario de Ibiza reports today that the strike might become indefinite if an agreement is not reached during the meeting that has been scheduled today in Madrid. Also, workers have scheduled an assembly for this Thursday July 28 to deal with all the news that may have arisen during the last days. Air Berlin to close Palma hub in the first quarter of 2016 Airlines,Airports

Last Tuesday, Air Berlin’s board approved the cancellation of the whole domestic flight network that they operate in Spain. This means all connections between Palma and other Spanish destination will no longer operate. Hence, the German airline will close their hub between Spain and Europe. The information was revealed by ElMundo on Friday. According to their sources the first destinations where the airline is to stop operating will be Ibiza, Alicante, Seville and Valencia. These routes will have been cancelled by the end of January 2016. The remainder of routes, i.e. Málaga, Jerez, Bilbao and Faro (Portugal), will be cancelled at the end…

Fast lane available at Palma airport as of today Airports,Charges

As of today, the airlines will be able to come to agreements with Palma airport over the use of the brand new “fast lane”. This will let some of the passengers go straight to the security controls. No need to queue. This system has been set up at the airlines’ request and will be handled by them too. They will decide if they want to use it and how much each passengers has to pay for it.  For their part, Aena will charge the airline 1.5 Euros per passenger. Another step forward has been taken in the slot coordination process for the Summer 2015 season. During the month of January the airlines were requested to cancel all the slots that they had booked but did not intend to operate in summer 2015 in the Spanish airports. Last month, Aena informed  that Alicante airport increased traffic by 2.5% between January and September 2014 with regard to the same period of 2013. This is significant by itself, but it is even more important if we consider that Ryanair, the first operator in the airport, reduced their offer in the summer from 2.373 to 2.208 million seats. Last month we informed that Vueling was about to catch Ryanair as the largest operator in Spain. Now, latest data collected from Aena confirm that, with the month of March over, Vueling has become the first operator in the Spanish airports as a matter of fact. Between January and March they have served 4.60 million passengers, ahead of Ryanair which transported 4,57 million people within the same period. Profitable airports dropped to eight in 2012 Airports

Despite the efforts to reduce costs and increase revenues, in 2012 the number of profitable airports dropped from eleven to eight.Thus, the only profitable airports where Bilbao, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Valencia, Tenerife South, Seville, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. The latter two made a 73 million Euro profit each.Alicante, Valencia and Fuerteventura entered into losses in 2012, to join a list where Madrid, Málaga, Santiago de Compostela and La Palma are emphasised.Aena, chaired by José Manuel Vargas, expect an EBITDA of 1,600 million Euros at the end of this year. Vueling to open a base in Brussels Airlines

Vueling will have a 180-seater A320 with his new base in Brussels, as from May 1, where they have scheduled seven new routes i.e. Rome, Venice,Lisbon, Porto, Santiago de Compostela, Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca. Yesterday, the airline announced they expect to increase their seat availability in Brussels by 108% regarding last summer. In particular, they will connect the Belgian city with Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante and Málaga apart from the other new seven destinations. With this, it will be the first time for Vueling to connect two cities out of Spain. Thanks to their base in Brussels, they will fly directly to Rome, Venice, Porto and Lisbon. New Menorca based startup to be presented this week Airlines

According to the information from hosteltur, Mariano Bendito and Lorenzo Moll, two entrepreneurs from Menorca, are working on a new Menorca based startup for the island which may solve its lack of connectivity. They already have the support from the Balearic institutions, a bank and several other entrepreneurs. Also, they would count with the “Aena’s receptiveness”.The project will be presented on the 13th of September and would foresee the lease of three 109-seater Fokker-100’s and one 78-seater Fokker-70 to operate interisland flights as well as to connect Menorca with other Spanish cities.
