According to the information published in several Spanish sources, CCOO (Union Confederation of Workers Committee) has called a strike for the Swissport Spain workers in March and April. CCOO, the main union of the ground handling company, informed that this strike has been called due to the fact that the negotiations on the collective agreement are in a deadlock. Over 2,000 employees are called to strike at the airports of Barcelona, Alicante, Almería, Málaga, Jerez, Fuerteventura and Madrid (in the case of the latter, only for the cargo terminal). A piece published by TeInteresa informs that the items currently blocking the negotiations are salary increases, maintenance of employment and other “key aspects” such as the split work day and the holiday schedule. As we explained in our post The current ground handling map in the Spanish airports, Swissport has a license for ramp handling in nine airports. They also perform other handling services at 12 other airports.
At the Barcelona airport, the stops have been scheduled for 24 hours on days 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 of March and 3, 4, 5 and 6 of April. At the Málaga airport, the stops will take place during different time periods: on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 of March the stops will go from 18:00 to 20:00 local time; on 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 of March the stops will happen between 10:00 and 12:00; on 3 and 4 of April, the stops will be held from 18:00 to 20:00; and on 5 of April, between 10:00 and 12:00. In the case of the Almería airport, the stops have been called for 4, 10, 14, 19, 23, 28 and 31 of March as well as 6 of April in different time slots. As for the Jerez airport, the stops will be held on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 of March and on 6 of April also during different time periods. With regard to Fuerteventura, they have scheduled 24 hour stops on 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30 of March and on 4 and 6 of April. In Alicante the stops will be held during different time slots on 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 of March and on 4 and 5 of April. Finally, in the cargo terminal of the Madrid airport the stops have been scheduled for 6, 13, 20 and 27 of March and for 3 of April between 15:00 and 21:00.
