This Saturday Iberia will launch the new Iberia low fare: a new offer aiming to gain new customers who seek good prices in the short and medium haul.
The basic Iberia low fare will apply to routes where they compete with Ryanair or easyJet: domestic flights or connections with Europe with the exception of London. They would have explained that it does not make sense to apply this policy in the route unless it has been agreed with British Airways, with whom they form IAG.
The Commercial Director for the Spanish airline, Marco Sansavini, did not want to reveal fares in a press conference but he assured they are expecting improvements in the load factors.
Customers who purchase basic rate will not be able to check in their baggage or chose a seat, which will be assigned by the airline. Also, Iberia will keep the classic fare, which would allow passengers to book a seat as well as check in their baggage. There will also be a third rate type, flexible, which will entitle passengers to a priority boarding and the possibility of changing flights with no cost.
Sansavini explained they are to receive up to eight aircrafts for the long haul and highlighted their concern in increasing the service quality and “putting an end to the idea that flying with Iberia is expensive”
The flights to America and the Business class are not affected by the price reductions.
