As we had already anticipated, Alicante has now officially changed names to become Alicante-Elche.This became official as soon as it was published in the Spanish Official Gazette on the 12th of July. As anticipated in this blog Barcelona has been about to receive the same number of passengers as Madrid during the month of June. Alicante airport to become Alicante-Elche
It has been on the Spanish media quite frequently during the last months and it looks like it has now been confirmed: The Government said that Alicante Airport will change names to become Alicante-Elche. According to the stats published by Aena, the Spanish airports registered 66,305,130 passengers between January and May 2013. This means a decrease by 6.6% compared with 2012.Madrid would have had 15,373,092 clients: 14.7% less than within the same period last year.Looking at May separately 16,885,317 passengers would have used the Spanish airports during this month.
