Aerocanarias:
A group of canary entrepreneurs headed by Carmelo Padilla, are finalizing the creation of a new airline called Aerocanarias that could replace Spanair by covering the hole left by that airline after its bankruptcy in January 2012.
This project is being managed a few months ago to operate routes to the mainland and between the islands
Shortly after Spanair announced its closure, Carmelo Padilla registered the domain aerocanarias.com, thus the company can operate on the Internet as soon as it has been established and implemented. Another indication that the project is still going on, is the fact that the digital rights of the brand were renewed in March 2013.
The arrival of a new airline could contribute to reduce the flight prices in the Canaries which increased considerably after Spanair’s demise.
