According to information published on the rtve website, there will soon be new strikes in Spain. Groundforce, the subsidiary handling company of Globalia, will begin indefinite strikes starting on July 4th. The strike will affect the following seven Spanish airports: Barcelona-El Prat, Bilbao, Madrid-Barajas, Gran Canaria, Seville, Tenerife Norte and Tenerife Sur. There are various major airlines that will be inconvenienced by the handling strike including Aeroflot, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Etihad Airways, Korean Air, Saudia, Air France-KLM, Alitalia, Lot and Lufthansa. The strike is the result of the inability to come to an agreement over the third collective bargaining agreement between the company and the worker’s union. Some of the grievances are related to salary and the creation of permanent employment in all airports where the workforce with an indefinite contract is below 65%. The strike will involve over 3,500 workers including passenger and loading/unloading handling operators. Meanwhile, this is not the only strike happening in Spain at the moment as the Madrid Ryanair handling strike is still ongoing.
For the Globalia strike, each airport will have a unique schedule of stoppages. In Madrid, Sundays from 12:00-14:00 and 20:00-22:00. For Barcelona the strike will happen on Fridays from 08:00-10:00 and 19:00-21:00. Tenerife Sur will also be affected Sundays from 10:00-12:00 and 16:00-18:00. The strike will happen in Bilbao on Mondays from 11:00-13:00 and 17:00-19:00. Tenerife Norte will also be Mondays from 13:00-17:00. Las Palmas will be affected on Wednesdays from 09:00-11:00 and 16:00-18:00. Finally, Seville will have strikes on Thursdays from 12:00-1600 and 19:00-21:00.
